Val Garland...Inspiration for my final major project

Val Garland...

In general Val Garland is a massive inspiration to me and one of the reasons I even ventured down this career path, but in particular for this project I would love to create a more avant garde, high fashion look, something she is outstanding in doing.

1. Val Garland

2. Val Garland for Vivienne Westwood runway show using MAC cosmetics

3. Val Garland for YSL.
I adore the skin in this campaign and the graduated colour, despite it looking like it was added after the shot was taken. Right as soon as i decided I wanted to do the day of the dead theme I knew that I wanted to do white iridescent skin so that it really highlights in the photo. I would really like to do a graduation of colour introduced from the bottom of the neck graduating down to the rib cage where the shot will end.

4. Val Garland's interpretation of a Harlequin-Geisha using MAC cosmetics.
This is a perfect example of taking a well known look and recreating it into a high fashion editorial look, something that I'm hoping to achieve with the make up for my final major project.

5.  Val Garland's Shroom's and Dolly girls for Romance was Born using MAC cosmetics.

6. I absolutely love this make up design, I think it compliments the collection so well, the use of accessories and adornments on the face are so quirky but work so well. The use of colour is outstanding and paired with the bright bowl cut wigs, I think it brings the whole look together. I would love to do something quite quirky around the eyes mimicking the usual scalloped circles that are usually done for day of the dead, but de-constructing it and highlighting certain features from day of the dead, without just doing the original design seen over and over, I want to re design the look and turn it high fashion editorial.

7.

I love the how crazy a lot of her designs are and how she perfectly captures and compliments the collections, or product being promoted, in the most innovative of ways!
She started off as a hairdresser, then crossed over into make up where she worked her way up. She has now become one of the most famous make up artists in the world, and has worked with massive names such as; Kate Moss, Vivienne Westwood, MAC, and has done multiple covers for VOGUE magazine.
