Year 1 Final Project...Masquerade!

So for our final project for the year we have to create a mask, hair and make up design, followed by a photographic shoot. Theme options are; Tribal, Pagan festivals/mythology, masquerade balls of Louis XIV, or Day of the dead. I have chosen theme Day of the dead. The reason for this is I really liked what the holiday represents. It celebrates life on earth, and trying to reincarnate lost lives through days of celebrations. Sugar skulls are made and decorated using bright colours, yellow marigolds are the flower of used to represent life, and are placed on the graves of friends and families. 
I would like to create a make up that isn't as busy as traditional day if the dead designs, I want to strip it back to make it appear more high fashion but keep the strong colours as my main focus point. I want the hair to be very minimalist as I want to incorporate big colourful flowers around the top of the head, so don't want it too all look too much!

My mask itself will be a one piece that has 2 sections that come down the cheeks and another that comes down the nose, this will create the skull like appearance. I really like the idea of doing the base iridescent white and taking it all the way down to past the shoulders; as this is only a head and shoulder shot so I wouldn't need to paint the whole body. I want to stick to the traditional day of the dead by making the eyes the main point of focus but instead of the traditional design I would like to make it far more high fashion, ideas so far are either doing bright feather detailing, or pearls and gems accompanied with bright shadows.

I have ordered a load of bits and pieces off Ebay, and some bright coloured eye shadow palettes, so will post up what I have bought and practices.
